Nokia Normandy: we hardly knew ye

John Davidson

Weeks ahead of Nokia's acquisition by Microsoft, more images have emerged of Normandy, the bargain-basement Android phone credited with tipping the scales in favour of the $US7.2 billion acquisition.

Evleaks, one of the planet's better sources of leaked gadget imagery (notwithstanding its recent leak about the next Nexus 10, which to its credit evleaks quickly retracted), has gotten its mits on a press image of the Normandy, which clearly shows will set the phone apart should it ever see the light of day: it runs Android, but has a tiled interface ripped straight from Windows Phone.

The existence of a press image (presuming it's real, and it certainly looks real) suggests that Nokia is quite close to releasing the phone. Or, at least, that it at some point got quite close.
