Intel to produce "Tesla" mobile phones in Serbia

BELGRADE - Next year in Serbia should begin the production of a mobile phone, named 'Tesla' and for a start and edition of 50,000 pieces would be produced, said Vice President of 'Intel', John Davis.



It would be a domestic phone with domestic price, said Davis.


'Our plan is to produce mobile phones in Serbia. We need to choose which phone would it be, model, at what price it would be sold with 'Intel' software. It would certainly be a domestic phone with a local name,' said Davis in an interview for RTS.


According to him, the technology of the camera would be designed by software engineers in Serbia and everyone would benefit from it.


When it comes to the amount of investment, Davis said that this is not about dollars, but about raising and building capacities, and in Serbia in particular about the involvement of local experts, increase in employment and education.


'We are making plans now, but our goal is for it to happen next year. Everything can take place very quickly, we have already done it in other countries. Serbian companies have the capacity to be our partners in the production of mobile phones,' said Davis.


Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Domestic Trade and Telecommunication Rasim Ljajic spoke with Davis about possibilities for the expansion of Intel Corporation in the field of information and communication technologies on the Serbian market.


Davis said that one of the plans of the company is related to the participation in training programs for teachers in primary schools in Serbia, which would be realized in cooperation with relevant state institutions, says the statement issued by the Ministry.


During their meeting, Davis informed Ljajic about the intention of his company, to, at the latest by the end of the second quarter of next year, assembling of mobile phones with Intel technology starts in Serbia. These phones would be sold on the domestic market, but also exported to the states in the region, as well as to countries with whom Serbia signed free trade agreements.


Intel Corporation has been present in Serbia since 2011 and currently in its development center in Belgrade it employees 22 experts.
