Chadrasekharan murder case: Eight mobile phones recovered from Kozhikode jail

KOZHIKODE: Police have recovered eight mobile phones from the district jail here on Tuesday.

One phone was buried in the soil near the bathroom, while the rest were recovered from the manhole near the toilet, which was used by the accused in the T P Chadrasekharan murder case.

Another phone was recovered in the search two days ago.

District police chief G Sparjankumar said two of the phones -- one Nokia X2 and another Nokia C2 -- can be used for accessing the internet. Others are ordinary handsets, he added. Two sim cards, batteries, memory cards and earphones were also recovered in the search.

Police have been conducting search in the jail and on the premises outside the jail for the past one week after the media reported that the accused in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case, including Kodi Suni, Kirmani Manoj and Mohammad Shafi, were using mobile phones to contact people outside.

Though bomb squad and dog squad were pressed into service, the search team could not find new mobile phones from the jail. Mobile phone covers, chargers and batteries were recovered from outside the jail.

ADGP T P Senkumar, who assumed the charge of the jail DGP, has asked the Kozhikode jail superintendent to give all assistance to the police to conduct raid for the phones. The toilets were searched because there was a strong doubt that the prisoners might have dumped the phone in the closet after the issue became a controversy.

The phones and other accessories were handed over to the cyber cell of the police for scientific examination.
