Police are scanning CCTV images following reports that thousands of pounds' worth of mobile phones were stolen from a delivery van in Cheltenham.
The incident was reported to Gloucestershire Constabulary at about 9.30am on Friday and is understood to have happened on the High Street.
A police spokesman said that police were called to the location outside the entrance to the Regent Arcade although it has confirmed that the incident did not take place on the shopping centre's premises.
The Echo understands that four tote boxes containing in the region of £40,000 worth of consumer products, including iPhones, were taken from the white Mercedez Sprinter van.
The DPD delivery driver claims he did not see anyone involved in the incident only that the boxes had gone missing.
The service offered by DPD allows customers to track the van's location online, which gives an estimated time of arrival.
A Cheltenham businessman, who asked not to be named, said he thought the system put the safety of the company's drivers at risk.
Anybody with information is asked to call Gloucestershire Police via 101, quoting incident 106 10/01/14.
