The number of mobile phones in China will exceed 450-million this year, with 120 million of them capable of running 4G networks.

That prediction is coming from the annual meeting of the China Internet Industry, held on Wednesday in Beijing.
Google's China leader, Scott Beaumont, says the consumer is usually the driving forces in improving the digital world.
'Now, the smart phones most of you own can also act as cameras, can also act as video cameras, can also act as keep-fit devices and other things we yet to imagine. And as a consumer, it's a delight to be able to experiment with a number of new technologies and new services that come along. And it's very empowering.'
The new 4G networks are expected to be a boon to China's numerous Internet companies, which are seeking speedier mobile connections to provide more and better services in the country's smart-phone market.

China awarded licenses for speedier mobile services last December.
The licenses will allow China's telecom operators to run fourth-generation mobile technology already deployed in developed countries such as the U.S.
