We know by know that Samsung makes almost everything (even a kitchen sink), so it should be no surprise to find out that the company has introduced a gaming controller for its handsets that's also compatible with other Android phones.

The Samsung GamePad connects via Bluetooth to your handset, and comes with a clamp that you can place your smartphone in.

I found the controller to be pretty comfortable in my hands. It wasn't too heavy when used alone, but when you add a smartphone, it feels just a little too heavy. I found the joystick to be pretty good, and when I tried it with Asphalt 8, gave the right amount of control for when steering a car.

I can't say the same for the d-pad, which was a little too clicky for my taste, but some may like it. It was also a bit of a stretch for my short thumbs to be comfortable with.

The four buttons on the right side share the same color and use dots to differentiate. You may need a while to get used to it (instead of learning the placement by colors or shapes).

Set for a first quarter release, the Samsung GamePad is a well-built controller that should make gaming on Android better. While it's designed to work with Samsung devices (tablets and smartphones), the Bluetooth connection means it should work well with other handsets.

Samsung did mention that the Game button is tied to a custom Samsung app that will allow gamers access to an updated list of compatible games.

Lastly, the potential for using this controller with emulators (available on the Google Play store) makes for a very interesting gadget that will turn your Android handset or tablet into the ultimate gaming device.
